Myth: "Drink 3 Liters a Day"

The Blanket Rule

"Everyone needs exactly 3 liters or 8 glasses of water daily for optimal health."

Clinical Reality:

There is no evidence-based "magic number". While 2.5–3.5L is cited for adults in warmer climates, needs are highly variable based on body composition, physical activity, and environment.

Dangerous for CKD: Blanket rules cause harm. The CKD WIT trial demonstrated that simply forcing more water does not uniformly slow kidney decline. In CKD, fluid targets are often restricted (< 2L) to match output.
