Formulary Overview
This section provides a high-level quantitative view of the summarized pediatric pharmacology data. The chart visualizes the distribution of the 40+ high-yield medications across major clinical categories. This helps quickly grasp the scope of the revision material, highlighting the emphasis on emergency care, immunizations, and antimicrobial stewardship in pediatric practice. Hover over the chart segments to see specific counts.
Drug Directory
Explore the complete list of high-yield pediatric medications below. Vaccine Classification Cheat Sheet
Exam Prep: Organized purely by mechanism/type for easy memorization.
Live Attenuated Whole Pathogen
- OPV: Oral. Replicates in gut, strong mucosal & systemic immunity.
- Rotavirus: Oral. Prevents severe rotaviral diarrhea in infancy.
- MMR & MR: SC only. Very strong, long-lasting immunity.
- Varicella: SC. Prevents chickenpox.
(MMR/MR, OPV, Rotavirus, Varicella)
Inactivated (Killed)
- IPV: IM/SC. Cannot replicate, safer in immunocompromised.
- Influenza: IM. Annual flu shots.
- Hepatitis A: IM. Standard non-live type.
Toxoids
- Diphtheria & Tetanus: Part of DTP/pentavalent/Tdap.
Acts by generating antibodies against toxins, not whole organisms.
Subunit / Recombinant
- Hepatitis B: Recombinant HBsAg protein.
- Acellular pertussis: Bacterial subunit (in DTaP).
Polysaccharides & Conjugates
- Conjugates (T-dependent): Hib, PCV, TCV. Work well in infants.
- Plain Polysaccharide: PPSV23. T-independent, used only ≥2 yrs.
• Live: OPV, Rotavirus, MMR/MR, Varicella.
• Non-live: Everything else in standard EPI (Hep B, IPV, DTP/pentavalent, Hib, PCV, TCV, Inactivated Influenza, Hep A). Then sub-classify the non-live group into Toxoids (D,T), Subunits (Hep B, aP), and Conjugates (Hib, PCV, TCV).
